Single phase is. kW = (Voltage × Amps × Power Factor) ÷ 1,000. Remember 3 single phases are used in a three phase system. Eg if you have 10amps on each of the three phases it is a total of 10amps 3 phase or 30 amps single phase. ( while not structurally correct it is sufficient for your need and this is why the different formula for single & three phase. If you assume the power factor is at unity “1” you can remove the power factor (or non used losses) and this gives you KVA. Single phase is -> kVA = (Voltage × Amps) ÷ 1,000. (Note the volts is phase to neutral/earth measurement) 3-phase systems, use the following equation: kW = (Volts × I × PF × 1.732) ÷ 1,000. (Note the volts is across the phase to phase measurement) kW = (Volts × I × 1.732) ÷ 1,000. Remember if you use KVA it is not looking at the real power required to operate as the power factor (the power/work lost between the Voltage wave and the Current wave)
