I have a desktop computer running Windows XP, Home Edition. It seems that over the years my hard disk is infected and is filled with a lot of junk stuff. How can I format and clean my hard disk in order to reinstall my Windows XP from my original disks? Thanks.

Use your install CD to do it, if the CD came with the PC.

If you are concerned about infections by virus on your PC, you can't trust anything you created from that PC like a recovery CD that you burned with it nor anything you downloaded with it. If you don't have anything you can use, you'll have buy one or use a safe PC to create one that can be finalized.

And if you can't do that, you need to take it to a qualified PC technician to have it done. You'll need to have a license key at that time.

So as TomLiotta said you can use a cd and just reinstall all. then you are sure that you have a clean version of xp. When you need to make a new cd i suggest that you make a new recovery cd just after the new installation. In the future its simple to just reinstall or repair your pc when you think you are affected or something
