I've just graduated taking up Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Communications Engineering. Is it advisable for me to take a certification for either SAP or CISCO?

My friends have been suggesting to me to take either one of these certifications as it does create a wider scope of options for my future career and could possibly provide me a huge boost on my starting salary (I'm not really sure about this). I know it's a bit too early for me to think about salary as I have just graduated, but once I have taken a couple of years as experience, your opinions and suggestions would help a lot by then. Also it wouldn't hurt to know things as early as now.

I just want to know about things like, what are my best options as an ECE graduate (I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question)? Is it considered a BIG CHANGE OF CAREER if I choose to take SAP or CISCO? Would you suggest me to take SAP or CISCO as early as now?

Other inputs would also be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

1) Its never too early to look at potential salaries. Set your goals and keep you eyes on the prize

2) It depends on what you want to do, what interests you, which one you excel at and which one pays better. Some of us chose Cisco for the network infrastructure side of things, which is a blast, is constantly changing, challenging and rewarding

3) You could always get one cert than go back for the other. Haivng a combination of certifications, experience and your education only boosts your value and salary…

Hi Quartz All i can say is it depends on what you want to be / do down the road. It depends on preference. But both of it have good future. For cisco, u can head up to CCIE and you will earn good money once u have experience on your back
