Folder Option Settings Problem

Any folder on an HD partition is set to "Detail" in View settings (call it Folder A). “Remember each Folder’s view settings” is selected under Tools/Folder Options/View. “Apply to All Folders” is selected. Okay is selected, but subfolders under Folder A retain there Icon view, as do Folders in other partitions. Close Folder A and open another folder, e.g., My Documents or a folder on another HD partition (call it Folder B). Change Folder B using same procedure as above to, for example, Detail view. Open Folder A again and it has defaulted back to the Icon view (and vice versa). MS solution was attempted: (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813711/en-us). Automatic “Fix It” was tried – didn’t work. Changed registry manually to increase number of folders to 5000 – didn’t work. Is there a known fix or will the Xp OS have to be reloaded to cure the problem? Dell Optiplex 320, Win Xp Pro SP3. 2GB RAM. Two partitions: C & D. An identical computer does not have this issue.

    1. Browse to the folder you want to have these settings. 2. Select detail view. 3. Open folder options. 4. Make sure the remember each is set. 5. Click apply to all. 6. Click Apply at the bottom of the window. 7. Click ok. That should do it. Just so it's clear. View settings don't propagate to sub folders. I like everything on detail view by default, so follow 1-3 and 5-7. In place of four I make sure remember each isn't checked. This makes every folder on the machine come up in detail view every time.
