Hey, I am trying to set up fog to be able to image computers on my network.

We previously had it set up working properly through a dedicated windows DHCP server, but recently we implemented changes and are now providing DHCP through a cisco 5510 ASA. It was working by itself without any configuration changes but it stopped working and for the most part (i say the most part because sometimes it will randomly work for a very short period) but most of the time will return a -

PXE-E53: No boot filename recieved

error when trying to boot from the NIC on the client machines. So I was hoping someone would be able to assist me in properly configuring the ASA without breaking anything. I tried to use the FAQ at http://www.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php?title=FOGUserGuide#Modifying_existing_DHCP_server_to_work_with_FOG but it doesnt let me configure it like a standard cisco router, and cannot see dhcp pool in running-config.

I'm an IT guy but i'm a bit new to PXE so let me know if you need anymore information.

If anyone could help it would be much appreciated!

Hi there,

The details on Fogs website are only for Cisco IOS and not Cisco PIX OS. I think its important to point out here that whilst some similarities exist between the 2 operating systems, for instance show run can be done in both, they are totally different.

This is why you cannot find the “ip dhcp-pool” statement in your configuration. The commands concerned with DHCP in PIX OS all start with “dhcpd” but as far as I can see there is no way of configuring the next-server option you require to specify the Fog server as the next server in the boot process. There simply is not the command.
