 Firewall and Google Maps
Hi All I have an issue at work, I have a user that needs access to google maps and only google maps. Can anyone tell me what IP addresses maps.google.ie use because I have added 21 different IP addresses to the firewall rule and the user still cannot gain access Also I know how to configure a firewall so its not the configuration that is stopping me. any help much appreciated

Google has a lot of IP addresses in several different address chunks... They are often rearranged, so it's not a good idea to rely on IP for acessing Google sites - it's necessary to rely on Google DNS. So, instead of using firewall for IP-based filtering, better install a web proxy and filter web sites by their url (i.e., DNS names).

A provider such as Google is likely to have a thousand or more IP addresses, and addresses that are in use or that might be reached by your user might change hourly.

Petkoa is right on the mark. A major point behind host names and DNS is that IP addresses can change without notice. If you’re going outside of the networking that you control, you cannot rely on an IP address. (It’s hard enough trying to rely on host names.)
