 FINWAIT
I keep getting an TCP error message in qsysopr. I also looked in the TCP connection status and there are lots of close-wait in there . Any ideas what this could be and if there really is a problem? Message ID . . . . . . : TCP2617 Severity . . . . . . . : 20 Message type . . . . . : Diagnostic Date sent . . . . . . : 04/07/09 Time sent . . . . . . : 09:24:46 Message . . . . : TCP/IP connection to remote system 10.1.1.1 closed, reason code 1. Cause . . . . . : The TCP/IP connection to remote system 10.1.1.1 has been closed. The connection was closed for reason code 1. Full connection details for the closed connection include: - local IP address is 10.1.1.1 - local port is 63745 - remote IP address is 10.1.1.1 - remote port is 5544 Reason codes and their meanings follow: 1 = TCP connection closed due to expiration of 10 minute FINWAIT2 timer.

Hi, The local and remote IP addresses are the same? That seems odd to me. Regards, Martin Gilbert. ============= Maybe this is IPC - inter process communication? I would expect it to use 127.0.01 (localhost) though rather than the IP of the system. It sounds like the application sent a FIN to close a TCP connection but did not receive the FIN/ACK and therefore was unable to acknowledge with another ACK and then a FIN/ACK for a final close. See this <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Tcp_state_diagram_fixed.svg">diagram </a>for TCP connection states. The FIN timeout is a normal TCP operation. Unless you are seeing any issues with the application listening on port 5544 then I would say this is not an issue. In the IT trenches? So am I - read my <a href="http://itknowledgeexchange.techtarget.com/it-trenches">IT-Trenches blog</a> Turns out its a PTF issue. We are behind a few PTF's. It all has to do with iseries navigator. I started a monitor job piece to send us emails when a certain susbsystem has a problem. It was not responding correctly b/c of a PTF issue. So I'm downlaoding PTF's now and we will see what happens... Stay tuned....! Ron
