Fingerprint biometric template on servers

We would like to develop a fingerprint automotive system but we are not sure that there is not a law (in USA and Europe) that required not to use biometric data on servers for safety reasons. So to sum up, is there a law that forbids the use of servers? Do you suggest to store biometric data on user smartphone in spite of servers?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Biometric data is often considered personally-identifiable information (PII) by the regulatory bodies. Perhaps there’s a way you could tokenize the data à la what’s done with credit card information for PCI DSS compliance. That could help. If you’re developing such a technology, I’m assuming your business has legal counsel. Their expertise would likely be the best starting point.

More specific details will help provide a better answer. Things like what kind of hardware, OS , software being considered. How is this going to be implemented and used. Just too many unknowns at this point.
