File Replication Between Servers for AD
I have three domain controllers and on one server I am receiving Event error 13508 messages which tells me the server is not replicationg. I tried a manual replication through Sites and Services and received a RPC server is unavailable. The server which is not working correctly is in a different physical location so the problem could be firewall related

Answer Wiki:
trouble shooting rule start from easiest thing . 1- try to check that you are are connected with that server . 2- try to telnet different ports like 53 and others 3- try to do gpupdate on server not working if it gives the same error as RPC is unavailable then try to restart so see the dhcp client and dns services . 4- try to check the DNS records created for all servers . 5- try to restart netlog on , workstation and file replication service . 6- if still doesn't work try to run netstat and see the port working at back . 7- also check windows firewall . 7- in site and services check that you have you servers as global catalog . any other help please let me know .

Is this a recent development or has it always had this problem? Have you investigated the firewall possibility yet?

After the posting a made a small change within AD ( changed the name of a computer) and the change did replicate over the server which I thought was not updating. The server is updating but is still reporting events of 13508 at times. I do not have any 13509 events.

Not sure exactly what the problem is.

Thanks

John
