I just had this problem today and tried every tip I found; nothing worked.

Fortunately, I was able to fix it:

Tools, Customize, go to the Toolbars tab.
Select Menu Bar and click Reset.
Choose Normal.dot and click OK.

Thanks for all the suggestions - I did finally reinstall and was very surprised when even that didn't work. But I got to thinking about the install and realized that for some odd reason they had redirected their templates directory to the network and it was pulling the normal.dot from there. Once I replaced it with a good version everything came back.

Thanks for all the help!

Do you mean the words across the top of the screen, File Edit View Insert, etc...?

If so just un install and re install the program, also have a look for spyware as certain ones have a habit of disabling some features of Word
