Q:
Fibre Channel or ISCSI for SAN
We have a SAN that is mission critical to the business. Performance and availabilty are key. I have read that I should lean towards fibre channel for this versus ISCSI but was curious if anyone has seen a noticable difference.

Software/Hardware used:
Fibre Channel, SAN, ISCSI

In your day to day operations you probably won't see a difference. It when there's a problem that you'll really start to see a difference. If you have a packet timeout on an iSCSI network the timeout will take a while (that's just the way TCP works) where on as FC network the timeout will be immediate.

You'll also start to saturate the network on an iSCSI network faster (unless you have 10 Gig Ethernet) as the iSCSI network is only 1 Gig, where the FC network will be 4 or 8 Gig.
