I don’t know of any free fax programs.
IBM sells one, which I have and don’t like. I find it very cumbersome and awkward to use. It appears to me that IBM is no longer enhancing it or planning to enhance it. After much tweaking, I have got it working and doing what I expect it to do.
There are many others out there, some at a reasonable cost. Look at Kisco Information systems Blue series, prices starting at $2000, depending on processor size.
If you say the boss will not pay for any more software, you have to put on you management hat and sell him the benefits. You will have to come up with a time and $ saving figure that the fax software will save you. From there it’s easy to calculate a Return on Investment time period. If you have people faxing manually and your fax machine does not have memory, that’s a 1 to 5 minute time waste for *every* fax! Add up employee salaries, even at a few minutes at a time, and you will see how you can recoup $2000 fairly quickly.
You can also say there is no free fax software for AS400. While there may be free or cheap pc based fax software, point out the time and energy spent moving files from as400 to pc, faxing, maintaining phone numbers, etc, will cost more than $2000.
