OK, so this is a DC and you are logging into it as domain\administrator (Meaning you are using the domain username “administrator”?). My question is if that account is a LOCAL admin on the server as well? Just trying to clarify here.

You are right, I withdraw the question. You are logging in with the domain\administrator account you say, I guess I am still not clear as to whether you mean this is an account actually named “administrator” or if your account is a domain admin account?
If the name of the account you are using is actually the name “administrator”, is it in fact a member of the domain admin security group in your organization?
If you are a domain admin logging into this DC then there should not be any issues with running the security updates. At least from a permissions stand point.
One last thought, are you connecting to the windows update site from this DC? or do you have wsus set up?

WOW! thanks for the quick response…
In regards to the Admin yes i’m logging into the box as a domain admin. when i tried to run the updates the first time i was logged in to the box remotely and it was giving me all these errors, then i thought that i’d connect directly to the box, and it still gave me this issue. no i am not using WSUS.
I also would like to thank you for assisting me on this issue. R you from NJ?

someone help me troubleshoot this site? lol
Sorry, Gianni, there is a microsoft KB article you can look up, I wanted to link it here, but that is not working. the KB article is 906602 and includes specifically ‘Steps to take when the error message is listed as 0×80070643, and no extended error is returned “

Melissa,
Would this also work for the other errors that I get?

You only listed the 0×80070643 errors, what other errors are you referring to?

ok, I guess I am just not awake, need more coffee!
Sorry, this is what I found on 0×8007F004 errors:
“0×8007F004 -2146963452 STATUS_INSUFFICIENT_PRIVS You do not have permission to update . Please contact your system administrator.”
That is perplexing since you say you are logging in as a domain admin to this DC and therefore you should have the correct permissions to run the updates.
