We are in the process of building a custom data warehouse (SQL with Business Objects Universe for reporting) - this is continuing the existing company strategy. The difference this time is that we need to extract data from SAP R3 to feed into the warehouse. What I'm not sure about is the best method of extracting from SAP and feeding the DW (ABAP's, ALE, BW extractors...). I would be very grateful if you could help me identify what would be best practice for this kind of request.

The question of “best” has to do with what fits your larger process and Enterpise Integration architecture as well as with the character of your data warehouse refreshes (e.g., monthly?, nightly?, transaction by transaction?. For example, if for you Business Objects is the center of multiple feeds from diverse systems, maybe you should think about using Business Objects’ own SAP integration products. If instead SAP is the primary source and the central feature of your architecture, maybe you should think about SAP Netweaver as your integration platform. If your information consumers are primarily Microsoft Office users (particularly MS Excel), maybe you should look to the MS SAP connector processes(and perhaps downplay the role of Business Objects).
