Hi, I have a client who is sending an Excel file as an attachment. We see the paperclip next to the message but in the message, we only see the file name <<example.xls>> I have a $File field with the name of the file... How can I access the attachment and dowload it on my local workstation. Thanks for your help !

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

See if you can find the file in the temp folder for Notes. On my system (Win2K) it’s under Documents & Settings –> myname –> temp (hidden by default) –> ????notes, where the question marks are a number and letter combo which is not consistant from machine to machine. If you can’t find it, search for the name of the file (from your $FILE field). If you need to unhide folders, it’s under the My Computer window -> Tools -> Folder Options -> View. Hope this helps.

In Outlook 2003 with Exchange 2000, open the e-mail, click on file and select save attachments. This presumes that you, your ISP, your e-mail, your firewall, your anti-virus, or your Outlook rules allow the receipt of an inbound attachment with an 'xls' file type. g'luck - elViejo

Don't know if you are having the problem with Outlook automatically blocking attachments. Here's a link to a site that will help you get around that. http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/esecup/getexe.htm Lirria

hello ... try to ask the sender to send this file to you again with the extension *.000 or *.old the outlook doesnt block attachments by default , it may be your antivirus app' that blocks potential malicious files like *.xml ;*xls ; *.doc etc.

If you see the paper clip and in the document properties you see a $fileName and a size for the file greater than 0 but you can only see "thisfile.xls" written in the message, that you are unable to right click on and view or open, then some virus scanning service has removed the file from the message, but not the reference to the file. Normally, you can right click on the attachment to get a set of menu prompts to open or detach the file.

I had this problem and found that upgrading the client to Notes 6.5 solved the problem.

Are you using Outlook express6 ? If so, by default attachments will be disabled to access. It can't be opened or saved. To enable, Tools -> Options -> Security -> Uncheck the checkbox "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus". Regards.
