This is a tuff one with out knowing your network setup. I went through a similar situation several years ago setting up Oracle behind firewalls and routers and accessing directly from the DMZ. I would suggest that you run Ethereal on both "sides" of you connection attempt and get a clear picture of what is really going on.

Charlie thankls alot for your response. I forgot to update this post. The problem was almost too simple. The router I was using dell 2300 is not capable of routing such connections. This router has several flaws security being a big one. I called Dell tech support and spoke with serveral of there “techs” untill I found someone that knew what I was talking about. I have since bought a new netgear router and makes my outside sql connection without flaw. Thanks again and I just wanted to let you know how I resolved this issue.
