Exchange Server with Blackburry
Hi, My company has asked me setup a MS Exchange Server to sync with mobile devices. I have looked into the following: * using ActiveSync (DirectPush) with a mobile device with Windows Mobile 5.0 * using Blackburry Enterprise Server along with our MS Exchange Server and use Blackburry phones. I was just wondering which of the two would be the best option? I'm not sure how to configure the Exchange Server and BES to work together and what else would I need to use the Blackburry option?

Hi Annon, I would certainly go for BES as it will give you all the features and centralized management you need. It isn't hard to install. Put it on its own server and give it an account with exchange admin privs so it can see everyone's mail. While you can certainly run into some issues with Blackberry's BES Server, overall, it is really great. At my company, we have about 50 users on it and have had very few issues over the past 2 years. By the way, it is "Blackberry", like the fruit. Thanks for the question! David Personal Website - HappyRouter.com - IT Knowledge & Training Videos

We use BES and I agree that it is easy to use and administer. Of course there is a cost component to it and if price is an issue then Active-synch also wroks well. However if you are using Symbian devices (e.g. Nokia phones) and you want secure comms you can run into difficulties loading custom certificates.

Another option is a freeware product called Emoze.

I agree with Annon. I run for 40 users and its a walk-in-the-park. Just make sure you use the lastest version and read the admin manual. Estimate 1 week learning curve.
