Current situation:
Exchange 2003 Standard Edtion (SP2) is running on Server 2000 SP4 w/roll-ups. Some servers are 2000, some are 2003/2003R2. In the "NT Domain" world, the Exchange Server would also be called the PDC. I am running the Domain in native mode, since I no longer have any NT servers or Pre-2000 workstations.
I need (desperately) to 'fork-lift upgrade' my RAS server, and I have a 2003 Server license and a new server box to use. What I would like to do is to make this server the PDC, but I have heard Horror Stories and rumors of Horror Stories about the 2003 DC Promo breaking the Exchange Server.
Should I perform an "In-Place" upgrade on the Exchange Server from Server 2000 to Server 2003, or am I waving a 3-iron over my head during a thunderstorm to do this? Any other reasonable upgrade paths?
