 Exchange Server Delay error message
We are getting the following error message while sending out email to "specific domains only". It happens to random domains and it started happening after the power failure at our facility. Delivery is delayed to these recipients or distribution lists: xxx@hotmail.com Subject: test This message has not yet been delivered. Microsoft Exchange will continue to try delivering the message on your behalf. Delivery of this message will be attempted until 1/23/2011 8:22:03 PM (GMT-06:00) Central Time (US & Canada). Microsoft Exchange will notify you if the message can't be delivered by that time."

Let's get a bit more specific here--is it Exchange 2003 or 2007 we are talking about? It will not make much difference, except in the location of some files we will be looking at. What is the SMTP error code you are receiving? Have you looked at the SMTP logs to see what they can tell us about the attempted delivery? The last time I had a similar situation, I needed to reinstall Exchange (worst case scenario, but prepare for it), but we may be able to work around this without doing anything so drastic.

The SMTP log wasn’t enabled to see the logs.
We have Exchange 2003 which is connected to Exchange 2007 on the same domain. We are migrating all the mailboxes from Exchange 2003 to 2007 and the “Routing Group Connector” is connecting from 2003 to 2007 using SmartHost

So is it only mail being sent from mailboxes that are still on Exchange 2003 that are having this issue?

this was the same message that I got in exchange 2003 last time.

this was because the email cannot go out as the DNS was removed from the server and was looping inside the server.

This is most probably a dns issue or a firewall issue(depends on if any rules changes),

What you can do is test with a simple telnet from your Source to Destinations exchange server and vice versa, because for some reason the mail is not leaving the queue,

What can also happen is that when you got a corrupted mail in the queue is messes up the queue, what AV are you using for mail scanning Mcafee Groupshield etc?Maybe its not running and in the process not removing the corrupted item/items,

Hope this helps,

Regards
