 Exchange Server auto-reply setup
We have an exchange server that has been servicing records as follows: user1@alpha.company.com is an alias for user1@bravo.company.com. All mail destined for alpha is forwarded to bravo e-mail address. We now need to only use the @bravo.company.com e-mail and set up an auto reply on the alpha.company.com to let the sender know that the old e-mail address is no good and to contact the user at @bravo.company.com. Is there a way to make an auto-reply for an entire domain in Exchange?

I'm not sure you can do this in Exchange but you can have the alpha email link to outlook temporarily then set the out of office reply stating that the alpha account will no longer be serviced and everyone will need to send emails to the bravo account. That's the quick and easy fix.

This cannot be done natively in Exchange, however, it can be done if you use a product like Sendmail or Ironmail as your Internet mail gateway server in front of your Exchange bridgeheads.

One note of caution when using auto-replies on a domain-wide basis. If a spammer is probing for valid e-mail addresses and comes across your auto-reply that returns a valid email address, be prepared to handle lots more spam…. and some grief from your customers.

You can setup an autoreply on exchange with codetwo software, check this out: http://www.codetwo.com/blog/email-auto-responders-on-exchange-server/2633
