Hi

My applications log, in event viewer, has recently been filling up with two different exchange errors;

Event Type: Error
Event Source: POP3 Connector
Event Category: Download
Event ID: 12050
Date: 19/07/2005
Time: 16:00:51
User: N/A
Computer: KINGSX
Description:
POP3: Failed to check the POP3 account for dct-2 at host mail.btconnect.com on port 110. The error is 1232

AND

Event Type: Error
Event Source: POP3 Connector
Event Category: Download
Event ID: 12052
Date: 19/07/2005
Time: 16:00:51
User: N/A
Computer: KINGSX
Description:
POP3: An error occurred during a POP3 transaction to host <mail.btconnect.com [194.73.73.217]>. For user <dct-2>. The error is 1232

Firstly can anyone tell me what they mean and secondly can any one tell me how to resolve the problem

Hello,

Well, to answer the first part of your question, When you are downloading mail from a Pop3 server and an error occurs, it cannot directly log an error event onto your server so it creates an event such as your seeing. The key to deciphering the error is in description. You'll note it lists error 1232. This is the actual Pop3 error that is occuring.

I did a search for error 1232 and it did not return anything very specific, but from the description of the error it appears the problem exists with a specific mailbox 'dct-2' which resides on the Pop3 server. I'd start by checking the mailbox configuration on the Pop server first. Make sure you can send mail to that mailbox and if successful sending mail to that point, then backtrack the path to your server verifying configuration options as you go.

Check this article out as it might help you understand what your seeing and will provide instructions as to how to set up some diagnostic logging which may shed more light on your specific errors.

1232 - “The network location cannot be reached. For information about network troubleshooting, see Windows Help.”. See Q280331

For the Event ID 12052, there are a number of error codes listed, but 1232 is not amoung them. You might wish to check out some of the others there and look a tthe associated MSKB articles.
