 Exchange 2007 migrations issue – need to find a way to let the users that have migrated to Exchange to share their Calendar.

A question submitted on SearchExchange.com We are migrating a large number of users to Exchange 2007 but only have a couple of K users migrated so far. We need to find a way to let the users that have migrated to Exchange to share their Calendar. If using a link such as: https://webmail.xxx.com/owa/jdoe@xxx.com/?cmd=contents&f=Calendar Any user that is now a Exchange user can view the users Calendar but none of the users that have not migrated yet can. I've tried everything, even created a distribution group then when into AD and added the domain users to that group which I added to the permissions of the not migrated users Outlook calendar permissions but did not work, still get a error - you do not have permissions. Giving permissions to Anonymous in the Calendar properties does not work either, could be Anonymous needs to be turned on the Server but don't see a setting for that? We need to find a way to let all domain users be able to have rights to view a exchange users calendar, owa is the only way I know but cannot get past the permissions issues.

You say you are migrating mailboxes but you do not say what platform you are migrating FROM. I can tell you how to share calendars in a migration from Exchange 2000/2003 scenario (just did that), but that won't be of any use to you if you are migrating say from Lotus Notes or some other platform. Please provide those details. Thanks.

In that case, you have to create and mount a public folder data base on an exchange 2007 server.

For our purposes we have a separate exchange 2007 mailbox server which only has a public folder store on it, nothing else. You then have to tell each mail store where to find its default Public Folder store. Open Exchange Management console, expand server configuration, select mailbox. Right click each mail store, go to properties and on the client settings tab make sure the exchange 2007 public store is selected.

After you have a public store created you have to replicate the schedule+ free busy folder for the first administrative (exchange 2003) group to this 2007 public folder data base. You can do this in the exchange 2003 ESM. In the first administrative group under folders, expand your public folders folder, right-click and select “view system folders”, find the schedule+ free busy folder, right-click the free busy folder for the first administrative group, go to properties and then the replication tab and add the public folder data base server to the replication list.

This folder has to be replicated to the exchange 2007 server public folder in order for ex2007 users to see the schedules of ex2003 users and vice versa.
