Hi friends,
I am a fresher in this field with not much knowledge.
Have been asked by my office to install exchange 2007.
The question i have is , what server would be good to install exchange 2007 on, also what raid is preferred / recommended.
Are there any sites i could have the installation procedures etc for reference...
And lastly .. does exchange have a feature of notification of mails to users via sms.
( if a user receives a mail and does not read it for a defined time, he gets a message on his cell ) ... is this possible...
Thanks

My suggestion would be RAID1 For os and logs and RAID 1 for Database also … as I don’t think that RAID 5 is recommended even by Microsoft , the idea is to separate between the logs and the data base , so you should design base on you resources.
64-bit processor is required . I don’t recommend less than 4 GB of ram if you want to install typical installation
Again its based on your resources and how many server you have and if you want cluster or not and what roles you want to install
And exchange dose no support sending sms but it dose support active sync “ push mail”
In the other hand if u install unified messaging role from exchange 2007 you will that the capability that ur client can call exchange server and check their mail on the phone and the can reply edit
Here are some references to review for planning Exchange Server 2007 storage http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124518.aspx/, http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2006/10/05/429103.aspx/ and of course, the storage calculator http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2007/01/15/432207.aspx/. Make sure to take due diligence planning and implementing Exchange Server 2007 with respect to processor, memory and storage requirements; also options and limitations for implementing the various roles.
Thank you All…. above info would be enough for me to start ..
thanks
