 Exchange 2007 Edge Transport Server
Edge Transport Server, Exchange 2007
Can you deploy an Exchange 2007 Edge transport server without having an Exchange organization up and running? We are in still running Lotus Notes for our email system, but would like to start to use the Exchange 2007 Edge Transport server. Is there any reason why this will not work? Thanks.

Yes, you can. The Edge Transport server is designed to function as a non-Domain-joined SMTP gateway typically residing in perimeter networks (aka "DMZ"). It can be used with non-Exchange email systems as well. As such, having an Exchange Organization in place is not one of the prerequisites for the Edge Transport server role.
