Exchange 2003, Email not being sent, SMTP Service unresponsive when unloading
We are having a problem with outbound email not being sent. We have a Microsoft 2003 SBS with SP2 and Exchange 2003. I have loaded all OS and Exchange updates that I find. Still doesn't want to send out emails until I either reboot the server or unload the SMTP service. When I try you unload the SMTP service, it take forever and eventually will give an error about the service being unresponsive but it looks as if the service did stop. The logs don't appear to point to anything. Virus scan is clean. I'm in desperate need of assistance as this has been going on for weeks and I'm about ready to pitch the Exchange Server out the windows and go with an outside email provider. Any help would be appreciated.

Run Exchange setup with the /reinstall option. This will reinstall Exchane with all of the current settings, leaving the existing databases in tact (see <a href="http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822939">http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822939</a>). You'll need to reinstall any Exchange service packs and updates afterwards. If this does not help, contact Microsoft Product Support Services. This constitues a server down situation and they may assist you for free, despite that you may be required to process a charge upfront.
