Q:
Exchange 2003 distribution group
I'm running Windows 2003 Server STD with Exchange 2003. I have created
a Distribution Group (global) in the AD but the group does not show up
in the GAL as a distribution list when I look at the GAL within my
Outlook client.

How do I create DL's and edit them?

Software/Hardware used:
Exchange 2003

Look on the Exchanged Advanced Tab of the Distribution List Properties.
There is a Checkbox for hiding the DL on the GAL.
Make sure it is not checked.

If it is in the GAL, but not showing the members and you want it to show the members, change the scope to Universal.

What do you mean when you say “GAL as a distribution list”? Does it show up in the GAL at all?

If you are using cached exchange mode (Outlook’s default setting), the GAL will update about once a day. So you can turn off cached exchange mode and do a send/recieve then check for the distribution group, or wait for the GAL to update itself.

The GAL updates once a day in Exchange 2003 so you may not see the group until the next day unless you run the RUS service. Is it showing the next day?

Make Sure you create a Simple Display Name, and then send an email message to the group. Once you send an email, the group will then display for all.
