exchange 2003 cannot send all of a sudden

I have a client with exchange 2003, who suddenly could not send emails. Receiving and internal relay working fine. All external emails bounced back with:- There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's email server. Please contact your system administrator. Can anyone assist with solutions this problems.

Just curious, have you checked the external DNS settings?

    Make sure the firewall is not blocking the outbound SMTP port

    Problem fixed, the IT support company who serviced the client before I took over did not inform me that the smtp smarthost service was terminated.Once corrected, emaul flowing with no issues.
