Exchange, Exchange security

Recently i have come accross to this unknown situation. We have exchange 2k3 in our company and 2000 DC. When I created new users and distribution groups the email address did not appear on their profile.
It was fine just a week ago and this seems to just happen suddenly.
Even when I tried to create a mailbox seperately through Exchange tasks I do not get an option to do that.
Any help will be appreciated a lot

Try running the Recipient Update Service manually. Also verify connection between Global Catalog and Exchange Server.
Verify name resolution and that all services are running on both exchange system and DC's.
