do i have need to have a registered internet domain before i could install exchange 2003?. (2) On a networked environment, do i need to install my dns in my network or , i would like to know how to mingle between the isp's dns and mine.

No you will not need it before you install Exchange but in order to receive email from outside of your organization, you will need to register a domain and create various DNS records to facilitate inbound email delivery to your users. You will need an A record for the host receiving email and then also an MX record for this A record. The MX (mail exchanger) record is critical so that other mail servers can find your inbound mail server. You can use your ISP’s DNS for all services.
