Hello

I have a spreadsheet which just has email addresses on it.  When I click on them they open a new email in Lotus Notes.  I want to know if there is a way to make it so that when I click on the hyperlink the message field is populated with a template letter which can be edited by the user before sending

Sounds like you need to write a lotus notes script to do the job. Try looking here for a memo from a text file example. It may give you an idea as to how it could be changed to reflect how you want to work.

The reason why when clicking on a email address anywhere (not just excel) it opens an email is because no doubt your machine has lotus Notes set to DEFAULT EMAIL client in your OS's settings. If you changed this to Outlook it would open an email there.

The links must be mailto link, i.e. it uses MAPI to ask Notes (or whatever mail client) to generate a new mail. The parameters that can be passed to the mail clien are few and they must be included in the mailto link. They are recipient, copy, blind copy, subject and body . I don't have the exact names with me but google knows them. The only way I can imagine to trigger the generation of a dedicated mail is to : 1 - create the model in the mail file and give it a name 2 - alter the mailto link to pass the model to be used, for instance in the subject field 3 - alter the memo form to load the model on opening based on the subject passed by MAPI. This could prove to be rather complicated and modifying the memo form at this level could be dangerous. What I would do is create a dedicated notes app with the content I need. Change the link in excel from a mailto link to a notes link (notes://....) and use this mecanism to pass the model I want to generate. the link could be something similar to this : notes:///MyApp.nsf/0/AutoMemo?OpenForm&ModelToUse=MyModel
