Have you tried "rebuilding" the client, as there are some settings in the ini file related to editing existing files, for example in my INI there is a line:

EDITIMP11=Microsoft Excel,0,_IW4W,,.XLS,,4,

you may be able to copy this that client's INI file and it might fix their issue. rebuilding the client would also resolve.

We also might need to know what version of the Notes client being run. If version 8, does it think the Symphony product is installed, but it is not, and Symphony is suppose to handle XLS files (grasping at straws here though)?

As Brooklynegg said we have no idea what others suggested so please let us know what you have tried and we will continue to try and help.

Have you repaired MS Office? It probably is not an Notes issue. Also, it appears that you are overwriting entries in the Answer section, so I don't know what others have suggested.
