CREATE ALIAS generally shouldn't be run in Crystal Reports. If an ALIAS is needed, it should be run through a standard interface such as STRSQL or iNavigator 'RunSQL scripts', by a DBA (or application developer).   An ALIAS is a permanent system object that should be created with appropriate ownership and authorities assigned to it. The sudden appearance of a system name can have unintended effects on other jobs that may be expecting the same name to exist or not exist.   As such, it should be created in a planned way. Its creation and deletion should be done in a function dedicated to that process. It should be done when the activities of other processes on the system are known.   If the characteristics of an ALIAS are needed in a single function, a OVRDBF command is usually a better choice. It doesn't have the overhead of creating a permanent object and it has almost no chance of affecting or being affected by other processes. If anything interrupts the process, the override disappears cleanly when the job ends.   Examples of CREATE ALIAS are found in the Information Center in the CREATE ALIAS topic.   Tom
