How does ethernet deliver different bandwidths?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

That’s a broad question. Typically controlled by bandwidth throttling of some type at the routers.

This is kind of vague - Ethernet itself runs at 10, 100, 1000 Meg, and 10 Gig - depending on the interface you have. However, outside the home or office, you are probably linked to another Ethernet network somewhere (could be the Internet); and THAT connection isn't Ethernet at all (most of the time). It could be serial, DSL, ATM, or a range of technologies, all of which have their own limits. Now, DSL may have a 10 Meg technical download and, say, 1 Meg upload limit; which your provider may not want to give you. Within his equipment, the upper limits are specified, and data beyond that speed may be delayed or simply dropped.
