ESX 3.5 Networking on IBM BladeCenter E
I'm looking for suggestions on the best way to configure failover networking using 4 Cisco IGESM switches in the 4 bays. Currently, I have all 4 ports on each switch configured for GEC, but if a switch fails, there is no failover to one of the other switches. Switch1 is for Service Console, Switch2 is for the VMs, Switch3 for iSCSI, and Switch4 for vMotion. I would like to make better use of these switches by having them provide a failover patch for the others.

Answer Wiki:
how many eth port do you have on each of your ESX hosts: I think four. if you have four I will do the following: vswitch0: eth0 and eth1 (active-standby) for service console. eth0 and eth1 (standby-active for vMotion) vSwitch1: eth2 and eth3 (all active) tagged vlan for all other networks you can do also the following: vswitch0: all ethX togheter, all active, tagged with divverent vlan id for service console, vmotion and all other networks hth cheers Manlio My virtualization Blog
