I've been trying to establish a connection with an IBM DB2 database (from which I can extract data). Here are some of the details I have:
  • Server Name
  • Data Library
  • Username/Password

I've used both Microsoft Excel and SQL Server 2008 but neither way is working.

Using Excel, this is what I tried: I have gone onto data-> From other sources -> From data connection wizard -> other/advanced -> Microsoft OLE DB Provider for DB2. But I keep getting this same error: "Test connection failed because of an error in initializing the provider.- The parameter is incorrect."

In SQL Server 2008: I created a new linked server and entered the server name in the data source parameter and username and password in the security page. But this is the error I'm getting here: "The linked server has been created but failed a connection test."

Can anyone help me out? Thank you for all the help!

What are connection parameters that you are using? Without seeing those, we can't guess what the problem might be. -- Tom
