Our backup is failing due to an error message that states we need to clean TAP01. We used a tape cleaner, also tried a solvent on swabs, tried a brand new tape and still get the error message. Any suggestions?

What is the message ID? When do you see it (and where)?

How does it fail? Simply with the message from above? Are there other messages?

Hi Tom,
We’re trying it again with a new tapemy associate didn’t record the error msg other than TAP01 required cleaning …will advise….
We ran the tape cleaner one more time and I used several long tip swabs with alcohol which removed grime and dust. In addition we started a new tape …our back up went through last night. Will test first new tape to determine if that was defective.
Test the backup. Restore a file from the beginning, middle, and end of the tape.
It may also be time to invest in a new cleaning tape and/or tapes.

We used the tape cleaner after receiving error msg #6 and that fixed the issue.
It is true what Nick mentioned to replace the tape drive, if all fails.
