Error message when transferring data from a CD
When I attempt to transfer data from a CD, I receive a message that the CD is read only and that I need to either copy from the CD or change the individual file data to be read only. Why does this occur?[o:p][/o:p]

In addition, what program should I use to open data files? (This is data from a Great Plains sample.)[o:p][/o:p]

Apparently the application you are using to read the files needs to modify either some file attributes or update some data on the disk. You should copy the files to a temporary location where you have read/write access and remove the READ-ONLY file attribute using File/Properties.
