 Error installing the client tools for SQL Server 2000 onto an XP desktop
SQL Server 2000, SQL Server errors, SQL Server installation, Windows XP
When attempting to install the client tools for SQL Server 2000 onto an XP desktop, I get an error stating that “A previous program installation created pending file operations on the installation machine. You must restart the computer before running setup.” Rebooting only leads to the same error, and I have tried a different PC with the same results. What should I do?

That's a known issue with SQL Server 2000. <a href="http://support.microsoft.com/kb/312995/en-us">Microsoft KB 312995</a> should fix your problem.
