I am not sure how to answer from what you said because the information given doesn’t seem to match my experience. Let me ask some questions.

Are you new to this McAfee product? Have you had a chance to read the documentation provided with the software and does what it says match your experience?

McAfee’s ePolicy Orchestrator product has a two paned window rather like Windows Explorer. When you say “right click the repository” which window are you in and where exactly did you right click? I don’t get “new window from here” on any of my context menus. It has been awhile since I used 3.0.2 (I have 3.5 now. Any reason for you not to upgrade to 3.5?) but usually when I select (left click) something in the left window any related details show up in the right window, though sometimes it is slow, being Java used via http.

Is this concerning the master repository (should be created when ePO is installed) or a distributed repository (manually created after installation)?

Are you using the console on the machine where you have installed ePO or are you using a remote console?

You say you did an upgrade. How many users are involved? With only a few users it might be worth uninstalling everything, doing a new install and creating a new database.

Have you installed the relevant ePO patches for 3.0.2? Patch 8 is the latest comprehensive patch.

Do you have a tech support agreement with McAfee? They have specific MER tools (Minimum Escalation Requirements) that will gather information on all aspects of the machine, the OS and the ePO installation which can then be e-mailed to them for analysis. I have found them to be helpful and good at finding answers.

I could go on but, as with most questions in the forum, there are so many possible causes that we need to get as much configuration detail as can be provided. Otherwise, we can write books worth of stuff and not help much. Hmm! I could be a world famous author!

Write back.

Good Luck,
Eric Harris

Thank you Eric. You are so nice. I am not new to McAfee. I upgaded EPO from 2.5 to 3.0 and 3.0.2. I have not upgade to EPO 3.5 for we have not renew the services with McAfee. The problem is on the right pane of the console. When I click repository, the right pane does not appear. and if I right click the "repository" and choose "new window from here" the new window says " the page can not be displayed". The affected function is that I can not check in packages because the right pane dose not appear. The virus definitions can be upgaded automaticully. We have about 50 users, I reinstalled the appplication except the database. I assusme it is not the problem of database. I googled the problem, and no solution is available. Could you give me more suggestion? Thanks

Well, I do but also need to return to some of my original questions. Are you working with the console on the server? A remote console? Do both show the same behavior? Do you have any idea when it stopped working? Did something get installed? A patch for the OS? Firewall software? What OS do you have? What else is this machine used for? Could another application be interfering? Another SQL application? Have you done any testing of the hardware? Could a hard disk be going bad? Do you have another machine that you could use for testing? If you install ePO clean on a different machine does it work? If you import the old database, does it still work? If either scenario works then reformatting the original machine and starting clean should get you running. Alternatively, if you have a good backup, you could do your tests on the original machine. Unless you have done a lot of customization in the config settings for applications in the database there shouldn't be too much trouble to starting with a new database. Send more details and I can help more. Eric Harris
