This is an interesting issue. I'm using Office 365 and whenever I start typing into an Excel spreadsheet, it's writing everything backwards. Basically I type this word 'number', it gives me 'rebmun'. I'm not sure how to stop it. Why is this happening?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Another thing you could try is to open it on another PC and see if the problem is with the document. If it works as intended on the other PC then their is something corrupt with your version of Excel.

Probably auto correct option is behind this issue. You can correct the word and also other words which are already stored. Very strange as the only ways I have seen it done is with add on tools or scripts, macros of functions. Those take a lot of coding behind the scenes.. If this is a new problem I would log it with Microsoft. It could be related to a recent patch and they may have a fix for it.

Just thinking a bit more. Do you have any special formatting in the cell(s) of formulas currently? Lastly is this only happening in existing spreadsheets? Have you tried to see if it is happening in a brand new spreadsheet.

This is just a suggestion (I got nothing funky when I tried it on my machine, but I don't have office 365 either).  Select a cell, select fonts on the home ribbon, there is a tab allignment that has several options, the bottom is "Test direction" that has a right-to-left option.

Another thing, if possible, test the same on other version of Excel and check if that happens again. It is better to make default for your spread sheet and check the same again.

There is a another possibility here too. It is possible that the default base Template has been changed and saved. This Template has all the default settings in it and it is what you get when you first open excel and a blank spreadsheet. if this default template has been changed, it will affect all spreadsheets upon opening them.
