Email Validation Software

AS/400, Email, CRM, Ecommerce applications, Database, Oracle, DB2, E-business, Exchange, WebServices

We do a lot of bulk email blasts to our Students, in which we get a high percentage of bounced emails. We are looking into purchasing an Email Validation package and was wondering if anyone can recommend a decent package that would either run on the i5 (AS/400) or that can interface (via ODBC, Java, etc.) rather easily. Your responses are appreciated.

What exactly are you trying to validate? We do quite a bit of bulk email to student populations, and "a high percentage of blounced emails" is a relative term. It may very well be that your experience with this population is typical/expected.

What we are looking to accomplish is to create a bulk email file on the AS/400 and send it thru this bulk email validation software and have it provide a return file of all bounced emails so we can update an AS/400 file with this information.

A week or two ago Ted Holt did an article on email address validation for the MC Press Online newsletter “Four Hundred Guru” (http://www.itjungle.com/fhg/fhg050907-story02.html). It only validates the format, but is very clever the way it does it and may help for a first pass through your bulk file.

Also, Scott Klement has an email validation routine that I’ve seen online somewhere but cannot find the link. While it doesn’t send a test email to the email address it can be configured to check that an MX record exists for the domain that the email address is in.

If you can’t find the Scott Klement link let me know and I’ll happily dig out the source members and send them to you.

All the best
