 Email size increases when moved to different folder
Exchange 2003, Outlook 2003, PST size
Thanks for your time! I use Exchange Server 2003 and OL2003 as client. Why email size increases when moved to different folder (in a PST file). When deleted it mantains the same size, not when moved to a PST file. Thanks.

Let me just run over this and make sure i have it correct. You are moving a message within your PST and it changes size. If this is correct how are you determining this? If you are looking at the quota then there is a possibility you have excluded specific folders from this quota. If you are moving the message into a pst that resides on a server with compression that can be your issue as well. Are you copying the message with attachments? Can you post the size before and after along with where the folders are located?

By default, a .pst file doesn’t decrease in size as you’re deleting messages. You’ll need to manually compact the data file by going to;

Within Outlook, Go to: File | Data File Management

When the GUI Opens, Highlight your .pst file (Expand the Filename column to be sure you have the correct file) Then click the Settings Button. Here you should see a “Compact Now” Button. Click on it and it will reorganize the file and allow you to recapture empty space.
