Email Inbox theft

3 different times in 3 months I have had emails go out from my id to my entire contact list that I did not send. What is this called? How is it happening? What is the best fix?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

It is easy to spoof the FROM address on an e-mail. It is like writing a false return address on an envelope. You need to get ahold of some of those messages and look at the headers to see where they originated and if you need to take action somewhere within your facility.

Labnuke is correct, but there are a few other possibilities that should be asked / mentioned. . 1) What is your email environment? (Exchange Server, ISP based POP/IMAP server, etc.?) 2) Have you ever left your desktop system unlocked when you were not there? 3) Followup to #2 - Have you checked your "Sent Items" folder/list to make sure the items in question are not there. 4) As Labnuke says: Get a copy of the email - with the headers 5) Is this happening with your home email, your employer's email, or what? . Write back and let us know. . Bob

Good point about leaving your computer on while away. Always press Windows-L keys to lock the machine when you leave it if it is a Windows computer.
