No reason why not. We use it for all of our development/test environments. Performance may be an issue depending on your requirements. I even have an ECC5 environment that runs under VMworkstation 5.5 on of my laptop using 3.5GB RAM and a 500GB USB disk (only really need just over 300GB). Not the fastest environment, but great for off-line work, remote demos, etc.
