Why when I type in a duration of 1 day does it span 2 calendar days?

Check to make sure your computer and Microsoft Project are both configured for the same time zone. 
It sounds like a scenario where Project is adding an event with a duration of one day, but because of a difference in time zone between Project and the PC it's displayed as being off by an hour or more which carries it into either the previous or next day.

the days in my schedule are 10 hours but this problem is present in any schedule I create no matter the duration.  Very frustrating.
