I am having trouble with intermittently, receiving duplicate copies of the same email from our hosted POP3/SMTP web mail.
Internally, we use Windows Server 2003, our workstations run Windows XP SP2, our firewall is a Sonicwall 2040 with McAfee's Gateway Antivirus and workstation solution . The workstations have either Microsoft Outlook 2000 or 2003 for the mail handling client. Both receive the intermittent duplicate mail.
By default Microsoft Outlook sends a request back to the Web hosted email server to delete the just received downloaded email. I believe the request to delete the just received message is being interrupted somehow and the server thinks it needs to send that message again.
How do I determine if the problem is my internal network, our ISP(Time Warner), or the web mail host server?
Is there a way to trace the Microsoft Outlook request to delete the received messages?
