What is the actual meaning of Core and Dual core processors and what is the main difference between Pentium-D processors ?

A dual core CPU is a single physical CPU which has two processing cores built onto it. A quad core CPU is a single physical CPU which has four processing cores built onto it. Intel Pentium-D CPUs are dual core CPUs.

One thing you have to keep in mind when talking about CPUs these days is the software that you will be running on them. VERY FEW applications/games actually know how to use multiple cores to do what they do! That is important!
