Hi all - Well I just realized that this is happening in 2 weeks and well - I'm so not ready. I have all the patches ready to be installed on the 2003 servers we have, but the 2000 server/adv servers have me a little stumped. Everything I have seen so far seems to indicate that a manual update to the registry has to be performed to take care of these systems (I have all the files ready). Just wondering if that is true or if the TZedit.exe tool can be used to take care of the problem. As always your assistance and input is greatly appreciated. Lirria

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

I just went over this with our network administrator. Yes you can use TZEdit to update the Time Zone information on your Windows 2000 Servers. When I tried it for myself, it appears the TZEdit has to be ran on each server individually instead of grouping them together. Once you open TZEdit, just select your Time Zone and click Edit on the Right side of the window and you can edit however you need to.

Alternately you can use the process stated in MS knowledge base at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914387 if you have a vast number of servers that need to be updated (or if you are like us, have Windows 2000 workstations that need updating.), which it appears you have read since you have the files ready already.

I hope this helps,

Charlie

My question is similiar. Has anyone come up with an easy central method of patching the windows 2000 pro workstations? If so do share.

Method 1 in the kb article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914387) contains instructions for making the .reg and vbs that must be run on clients. It gives instructions on deploying with GPO. You could also deploy with SMS, Zen, Altiris, login script, emails with a click-here button or auto-run on sneaker-netted CDs. Basicly, whatever tools you use for software deployment, just use it to deploy this.
