Dreamweaver CS3 – Templates and meta tags

I can't seem to figure out how to do this. I create a template, with editable regions in the body. I create a new document using the template. Then I try to add the title and the keywords/description. It won't let me. It's not an editable region. The book I have (Dreamweaver 8) says that the <head> is editable in templates...but that doesn't seem to be the case for me. I don't want to add the title to the template because then every page would be the same.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Hope this is not too late for you. You can’t edit the locked regions of a template-based page in Dreamweaver, including the page title. I had the same problem myself. The simple solution for me is to open the web pages using a text editor (note tab in my case) and edit the page titles and meta tags.

Hope this helps.

Changing the head tags in a text editor won't work, because the next time you save your template, the changes will be wiped out. This is better: In code view, go to the head of your template (dwt file) and add editable region tags around the header tags that you want to make editable: <!-- InstanceBeginEditable name="title" --><title>Page Name</title><!-- InstanceEndEditable --> Save your document and now you will be able to edit the tags in individual pages.

THe comment makes sense except in CS3 Dreamweaver even if you put in the editable region it does not stay upon save

I use Dreamweaver cS3, and I don't have this problem at all. It always automatically sets the title as an editable region! Same goes for meta tags....

Seems that there is a little bug with this. If you don't set a title when you create the template page, it won't let you edit it later. Just make sure you do!

I know it's too late but whoever reads this page might find this reply useful. In Dreamweaver you simply need to go to Modify -> Templates -> Detach from Template Then you edit whatever you would liek to edit and under the same you attach the template to the file again. Hope this will be useful for someone.
