Disaster recovery
Hi guys, I'm planning to put a DR strategy in place for my firm. I have the option of backing up our data & system volume to an external drive or tape drive. However, I have been having challenges backing up to a tape drive. Do you think external drive is a better option?

An external drive should be faster and more reliable than tape.

Have you considered have a service come in over the net and do your save.
Then you will always have an off site copy, archives.
...................
Well, Its not like whether its better to backed up into tape or storage, Its a point to reanalysing/restoring the backup time to time in any backup/additional server.

Thanks

One server - I’d opt for an external drive for reasons already stated. Off-siting a copy is important. You might want to have a rotating on-site, off-site copy. Depending on the nature of the information on the server, you may need to secure the off-site copy. For one server, I doubt I’d engage a service.

Whether or not one is necessarily any better than the other depends on your systems, your line of work, your expertise and so on. Also keep in mind that DR is more than just backups.
